Amit Shah: CBI under UPA tried to force me to frame Modi

NEW DELHI: A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed that all tricks were played to "implicate" him and put him behind bars when he was Gujarat CM, Union home minister Amit Shah on Wednesday alleged that the CBI had put pressure on him to frame Modi in a fake encounter case when Congress was in office at the Centre.
"I was accused in a fake encounter case. They used to tell me to take the name of Modi and I will be freed. In more than 90% of questions, they (agencies) used to ask me to name Modi and then I will be freed. But I refused and was jailed," Shah said at a News18 event.
Shah said that despite this, BJP never raised a hue and cry and never resorted to protests wearing black kurta, dhoti and pagdi. "It was Sonia Gandhi heading the Congress and Manmohan Singh was the PM. Several innocent police officers were framed," Shah said and added, "A Mumbai court acquitted me and said in its decision that I was framed in a fake case for political reasons, but we never resorted to protests."
The home minister said that on the other hand, there is evidence against opposition leaders on which the agencies are taking action. "Kejriwal is claiming to be clean. But it has been a long time since Satyender Jain is in jail and so is Manish Sisodia. If they are innocent, why are they not getting bail," Shah asked.

Asked about a possible ploy of the Congress to make Rahul Gandhi a hero after his disqualification as Lok Sabha MP and make the Karnataka assembly polls "Rahul vs Modi", Shah said there could not be a better template for BJP. He said the law is very clear on MPs' disqualification and added that Rahul would have been saved if he had not torn the ordinance on disqualification of lawmakers.

Slamming his "arrogance", Shah asked why Rahul had not yet appealed for a stay on his conviction. "Where does this arrogance generate from? Lalu Prasad, J Jayalalithaa and Rashid Alvi were among 17 people who lost their memberships but no one created a ruckus. Why does the Gandhi family want a separate law for itself? The people of India need to decide if we need a separate law for one family."
Taking a swipe at Rahul, Shah said: "Why was democracy not in danger when other MPs were disqualified? Why is he beating his chest now when he was the one who tore the ordinance?"

"PM Modi is blamed for whatever happened and the Lok Sabha Speaker had no authority to stop the disqualification," Shah said.
About Rahul's remarks against Savarkar, Shah said he should not say such words for Veer Savarkar. "Savarkar has sacrificed a lot for the country. His own allies have suggested not to speak against Savarkar," he said.

In Big Relief to Thousands of Indian Techies, Spouses of H-1B Visa Holders Can Now Work in US

The US has issued nearly 1,00,000 work authorisations to spouses of H-1B workers, a significantly large number of whom are Indians

In a big relief to thousands of Indian techies, a judge has ruled that spouses of H-1B visa holders can work in the United States.

Major tech companies including Amazon, Apple, Google and Microsoft had opposed the lawsuit. The US has issued nearly 1,00,000 work authorisations to spouses of H-1B workers, a significantly large number of whom are Indians.

In the process, US District Judge Tanya Chutkan dismissed a lawsuit filed by Save Jobs USA which had approached the court to dismiss the Obama-era regulation that gave employment authorization cards to spouses of certain categories of H-1B visa holders.

Judge Chutkan, in her order, said the primary contention of Save Jobs USA is that Congress has never granted the Department of Homeland Security authority to allow foreign nationals, like H-4 visa-holders, to work during their stay in the United States.

But that contention runs headlong into the text of the Immigration and Nationality Act, decades of executive-branch practice and both explicit and implicit congressional ratification of that practice, she wrote.

The judge wrote that Congress has expressly and knowingly empowered the US Government to authorize employment as a permissible condition of an H-4 spouse’s stay in the United States.

The fact that the federal government has had longstanding and open responsibility for authorizing employment for similar visa classes further manifests Congress’ approval of it exercising that authority, she said.

The Department of Homeland Security and its predecessors have authorized employment not just for students, but also for their spouses and dependents, Judge Chutkan wrote in the ruling.

Also, the Department of Homeland Security has long extended work authorization to spouses of foreign government officials and spouses of employees or officers of international organizations, the judge wrote as she dismissed the lawsuit filed by Save Jobs USA.

Ajay Bhutoria, a prominent community leader and advocate for immigrant rights, has applauded the decision by the court to allow H1B spouses to work and support their families.

The H1B visa programme is designed to allow skilled foreign workers to come to the United States and work for American companies. However, until recently, H1B spouses were not allowed to work, which often placed a significant financial burden on families, he said.

“With the court’s decision to allow H1B visa holders’ spouses to work, thousands of families across the country will be able to breathe a little easier. This decision will provide much-needed relief to families who have been struggling to make ends meet and it will help to ensure that these families can stay together and thrive," Bhutoria said.

“Allowing H1B spouses to work is not just a matter of economic fairness, but it is also a matter of family unity and stability. I applaud the court’s decision, and I hope that this is just the first step towards a more compassionate and equitable immigration system," he said.

Save Jobs USA said it plans to appeal against the court ruling.
